Propagation

Sexual propagation: Most plants reproduce more of their kind through production of seeds. This is SEXUAL REPRODUCTION and it involves the exchange of genetic material between two parent plants.

Asexual propagation: Asexual propagation does not involve exchange of genetic material, so it almost always produces plants that are identical to a single parent.

Camellia Propagation: Propagation of Camellias is done by seeds, cuttings and grafting. With seeds, a new cultivar is created. It takes about 4 to 20 years before the plant will bloom, and most likely the quality of the new plant is inferior to existing cultivars.

Bonsai

Bonsai History: Bonsai first appeared in China over a thousand years ago on a very basic scale, known as pun-sai, where it was the practice of growing single specimen trees in pots.

Styles and Techniques: Over the years, bonsai enthusiasts have frequently tried to reclassify the styles, and their many sub-divisions into which plants can be trained.

Bonsai and Winter: Most species of bonsai and nearly all temperate climate woody plants require the cold. During the Autumn, as daylight hours become shorter and temperatures drop, trees react by hardening up their immature growth.
